Information

Created by Shelby Odom

First cast in 1905 by the Keystone Type Foundry, Regal Arcade was inspired by John Hancock Condensed. It was not until 1923 that the original version of the slab-serif was displayed in the American Type Founders Specimen Book. The powerful and witty specimen displayed strong vertical strokes and hard corners. The 2022 revival unbracketed slab-serif carries itself with a gentle approach, but holds firm in the stable ground of each character. Regal Arcade has a consistent stroke weight across majuscules and minuscules to emphasize the high x-height. Select characters have ball terminals that bring a clever tone to the typeface. This specimen includes 4 styles for variety of use: Thin, Light, Regular, Semibold, and Bold.
